FAQs
CoVenture is a 5-year longitudinal study exploring the long-term effects of a personality-based substance use prevention program on adolescent substance use, mental health, cognition, and brain development.
PreVenture forms the foundation of CoVenture. It is a personality-focused intervention program designed to prevent substance misuse and promote mental health in adolescents. By addressing personality traits like impulsivity, anxiety sensitivity, hopelessness, and sensation seeking, PreVenture equips participants with strategies rooted in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) concepts to build resilience and achieve personal goals.
CoVenture builds on this foundation by studying the long-term outcomes of these interventions, exploring how adolescent substance use and mental health trajectories evolve into young adulthood.

The original study demonstrated that personality-targeted interventions significantly reduced substance use, delayed the initiation of binge drinking, and improved mental coping mechanisms. These findings also influenced public policies in Quebec, particularly in substance use prevention.
